Although surprising, the pollution prevention is not difficult. We can find opportunities at home, when we shop at the store when we go to school or when we go to work. You may take action in your daily life to help eliminate pollution. Once you make a habit of reflecting on the pollution that you create, you will recognize soon more and more opportunities for prevention. Take the challenge and find a new way to reduce pollution every week or improve something you’ve already begun. Take your bike more often or go to school on foot every day instead of once or twice a week.

Preventing pollution

We can help reduce and prevent air pollution by using less electricity and fuel.

# Walk, bike or use transit.
# Take your friends if you go to the same place (carpool)
#Turn off lights, TV, radio and other electrical appliances when not in use.
# Use low-energy lightbulbs and energy saving.
#Avoid using machines powered by the fuel.
# Fill the car with cleaner fuel.
# Make developed regularly.
# Put the car engine to stop while you’re waiting, do not let it idle.

Without descending into sensationalism, the subject is too serious for that, it is not clear that governments are recognizing the seriousness of the problem before it is too late. Not only do we not lessen our emissions, but it is almost certain that we will quadruple. In this case, far from being fanciful, unfortunately, the temperature increase of 8 degrees (estimate of the Met Office Hadley Centre).

In this case, according to experts, our planet would experience temperatures similar to those that existed there 40 million years ago. At that time, the polar ice caps were not permanent and sea levels were 12m higher than today. Needless to say that many countries would be engulfed.

The Hadley Centre is already planning by 2080 if nothing is done, climate change concern:

    * 50% decrease in rainfall over the Tropics (Tropical Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia). The U.S. will also see a decrease in rainfall
* Elevated sea levels in Europe, Indonesia, Ganges Delta
* Ice cover that extends over northern Europe and parts of England

Half of the solar energy enters the atmosphere and reaches the ground. It warms and the earth and is transformed into infrared radiation returned to space. But like a greenhouse, certain gases in the atmosphere prevent some of these rays again. Thus trapped, they help warm the atmosphere. Without this greenhouse effect the Earth’s temperature would be – 18 ° C and little water is in liquid form. This natural effect is beneficial and provides a mean temperature of 15 ° C.

Gases which are involve in Global Warming:-

The gases involved in the greenhouse effect are mainly water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and ozone. Greenhouse gas emissions include industrial CFCs or HFCs, perfluorocarbons or PFCs and sulfur hexafluoride, or SF6, these gases are also responsible for the attack of the ozone layer.

These are the 6 gases covered by the Kyoto Protocol. Each gas has a power of global warming (or GWP) compared to carbon dioxide and a stay in the atmosphere.

Length of stay and power global warming greenhouse gas emissions:-

The main greenhouse gases are naturally occurring and scarce. But because of human activity, the atmospheric concentration of some of them increased significantly, mainly ozone (O3), carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4). Since 1750, the rate of CO 2 in the atmosphere has increased by 30%, that of CH4 to 145%. But the combined effects of all greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to an increase of 50% CO 2 from the same period.

Today and after many hesitations, there is consensus on the impact of human activity on climate change. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued a new report in 2001 which estimated that “evidence more recent and conclusive can be said that most of the warming observed over the last fifty years is due to human activities “.

If global warming continues at current levels, ocean temperatures could increase by half a degree by 2050. The aquatic ecosystem would be completely altered.One million plant and animal species could disappear by 2050 (estimate of the journal Nature on 01/08/2004).

The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) provides for the disappearance of 21% to 52% of species. If we do not reduce our emissions of greenhouse gases, global temperature, which has already risen by 0.6 degrees over the last century, will increase to a new level.

Even less pessimistic scientists foresee catastrophic events:

    * Disappearing glaciers
* Floods
* Heat waves and storms
* Elevation of at least 30 cm of sea level

According to the World Health Organization, tobacco is the second largest cause of death worldwide. Leading cause of preventable death, tobacco each year, causing five million deaths. This is the only legal product sold that kills when used exactly as the manufacturer provides. It is well known that half of all smokers today, approximately 650 million people will eventually die from smoking. It is equally alarming that hundreds of thousands of people who have never smoked die each year from diseases caused by inhaling the smoke of others. Half of smokers consuming more than 15 cigarettes per day die of tobacco related disease and thousands of passive smokers pass away every year. Smoking is the abuse of tobacco, but all of the physiological and psychological disorders or poisoning caused by the abuse of tobacco. It is now undoubtedly responsible for a significant reduction in lifespan. We re-stated here that in the current state of scientific knowledge, we have only one life.

In the world during the twentieth century, tobacco has killed 100 million people and this number may rise to 1 billion for the XXI century if behaviors do not evolve (OFDT, 2005). Tobacco is currently responsible for the deaths of 10 adults (about 5 million deaths a year). If smoking continues on its current course, it will cause some 10 million deaths annually by 2020 according to WHO. In Europe, nearly 500 000 people die prematurely each year from diseases related to smoking, according to statements by David Byrne Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection. In France, around 66 000 people die each year from tobacco (over 10% of deaths) of which 27 000 per lung cancer (85% were caused by smoking) by the National League against Cancer. For a smoker in four, the average loss of life expectancy is twenty years and results in death before 65 years, according to a study by the Regional Health Observatory of France. France has about 15 million smokers are young people between 20 and 25 who smoke the most (48% of the age by OFDT).

Compared to a non-smoker, the risk of cancer of a smoker is multiplied by:

* 10 for lung and pharynx.
* 7 for the pharynx.
* 4 for the mouth and esophagus.
* 2 pour la vessie.
* 2 for the bladder.

The incidence of lung cancer is proportional to the number of cigarettes smoked per day. Indeed if one smokes 5 x 365 days for 15 to 20 years, this represents tens of thousands of cigarettes.
